Went for VJ choir Symphony Of Voices at Esplanade on Tuesday night. We were seated so front, any nearer and we would have been kissing the nicely polished shoes of the basses. It was worth my 21 bucks though, and I feel sorry for those who missed it. =)
Anyway, after digging and playing all the old cds in the house, I picked the following song for Daddy to sing at the banquet, mainly because I like the lyrics, though it's a little sad.
Don't Cry JoniJoni was the girl who lived next door
I've known her I guess ten years or more
Joni wrote me a note one day
And this is what she had to say
Jimmy please say you'll wait for me
I'll grow up some day you'll see
Saving all my kisses just for you
Signed with love, forever true
Slowly I read her note once more
Then I went over to the house next door
Her teardrops fell like rain that day
When I told Joni what I had to say
Joni, Joni please don't cry
You'll forget me by and by
You're just fifteen and I'm twenty two
And Joni I just can't wait for youSoon I left our little home town
Got me a job and tried to settle down
But these words keep on in my memory
The words that Joni said to me Jimmy please say you'll wait for meI'll grow up some day you'll seeSaving all my kisses just for youSigned with love, forever trueI packed my clothes and caught a plane
I had to see Joni I had to explain
How my heart was filled with her memory
And ask my Joni if she'd marry me
I ran all the way to the house next door
But things weren't like they were beforeMy teardrops fell like rain that day
When I heard what Joni had to say Jimmy, Jimmy please don't cry
You'll forget me by and by
It's been five years since you've been gone
Jimmy I married your best friend John
Isn't it sad? I felt so sad for Joni when she sang the part about waiting for her. And then I got kinda mad at Jimmy for letting his chance with Joni slip away. Heh.
I hate the feeling of not knowing/finding any appropriate thing to say, even when I know there's much to be said. Does it ever happen to you? Unfortunately it happens so frequently to me that I'm beginning to think that I've lost my ability to reason.
Yikes.
