Why does Kuching feel like home?
The question came to me as I was getting ready to go out with Rita.
Can You Feel The Love Tonight by Elton John was playing on my player.
So. Why? Why does Kuching feel so special to me?
Those who call me often at home, and my mom picks up the phone, you'll hear hee shouting
TASHA!! YOUR PHONE AR!. Yup. Only family members call me tasha. I'm known as nat to my friends.
But in Kuching, everyone
(yes i mean everyone) knows me as
tasha. We're not related to each other by blood; but yet they call tasha. People like, uncle wilfred, auntie siew moi, dawn, uncle lawrence, auntie maria, lovena, lyndelle (um, actually i think he calls me natasha, haha.) and other people whom I don't really know. (read : mom and dad's friends) OH! and one more.
MAMAK HELEN! =) the mamak that watched me poop when i was young. the mamak that cut my fingernails SQUARE and ruined my chance of having nice ladylike nails. the mamak that likes to hug me real tight and pinch my cheeks. the mamak that goes "aiyoh, tasha tasha!" every year when I visit Kuching.
I know, no big deal. But there's a sense of belonging.
One more thing. Church service in Kuching English Church rocks! So much better than Singapore. Nope, i'm not trying to put our SDA churches down. But really. The atmosphere is different. Absolutely. Nothing can beat Kuching service.
Also, maybe because mommy is
kuching nang, which roughly translates into kuching person (?!), haha, or rather, aiyah, she is from kuching lah! Daddy was the principal of Sunny Hill for quite some time, then Principal of Ayer Manis in Serian. So every year, Mom would pack me in a suitcase and drag me to Kuching and showcase me to my extended family. And when I say extended...I really mean EXTENDED.
I feel so at home in Kuching. Although the Tay sisters(including my mom) can be quite annoying at times. THEY LOVE TO QUARREL.
Conclusion : I LOVE KUCHING.
or do i love a certain someone there? SIGH.
